In 2019, Jason Greer and Vanessa Cicarelli of Birdy & Bean films approached me about creating a documentary focused on Doe. In early 2020, they optioned the film rights to the book and began filming. The film focuses on the poetry collection as a whole, but features selected poems from the book.
Not long after, Sue Vicory of Heartland Films joined as Executive Producer. And, not long after that, Kate Mulgrew signed on as the film's narrator. Jaramy Conners and I are currently writing the script for her part. Kate will be joined by Raven Goodwin who has signed on to read the poems. Coco Jones will also be giving voice to a two part poem, "Here, the heart". Stephanie Quayle will be writing an original song for the film with Alex Kline.
As an independent film, fundraising is a critical part of production. If you're able to give a tax deductible gift, you can head here.
